- Origin
- Distribution:Japan(Amami-Oshima to Iriomote Is.of Okinawa).
- Characteristics
- Flowers:White,with slightly pink-edged outer petals,5-6 petals,very small,2-2.5cm in diameter,cup shape with outward curved edges.Flowering in February to April.
- Leaves:Elliptic to ovate-oblong-elliptic,3-4.5cm long and 1.5-2cm wide,green,less shiny, venation is obscure.
- 2n=30.
- Uses
- This species has the strongest fragrance within all species presently cultivated, and it is regards as one of the most important materials for fragrant camellias breeding.
- A large number of hybrids between this species and others have been reported.And many of these hybrids have fragrant flowers, the similar flower shape and leaf shape as this.
