- Origin
- This species is found in mountainous areas of Hongkong Island, and its number is fairly large.Introduced to Japan in 1958 from Hongkong Botanical Garden at first.
- Now there are several clones, some of which from the United States and others collected in the native habitat.
- Distribution:Hongkong,Kwangtung.
- Characteristics
- Flowers:Red with faint violet,6-7 petals,3-4cm in diameter,small tube shape,warped in the flowering end. Flowering in December to March.
- Leaves:Narrow-elliptic to lanceolate,7-12cm long and 3-3.5cm wide, dark-green,less shiny.Venation is obscure.
- 2n=30.
- Uses
- It is reported by Sakata(1981)a blue pigment of delphinidin is contained in the petals. It is interested as a parent of blue flower camellia.
