- Distribution:Japan (South of Aomori prefecture),Korea,China but unknownwhether spontaneous or not.
- Characteristics
- Flowers:Deep-red,5-6 petals,5-8cm in diameter,marked variations of flower color and flower form.Flowering in October to April.
- Leaves:Oblong-elliptic to ovate-elliptic,5-10cm long and 3-5cm wide, shining,deep-green.Venations is relatively obscure.
- 2n=30.
- Uses
- Most important species for ornamental camellias, and there are several thousands of cultivars.This species is found in the highest latitude within genus Camellia as seen in the distribution map, and this is the most cold-resistant.Hybrids between this species and others also usuallyhave cold-resistance.
