- Characteristics
- Leaves are alternate, simple, toothed and lethery. Petioles are short. Flowers are usually showy, bisexual, solitary or clustered, axillary or seeming terminal, Peduncles are generally with 4-5 bracteoles. Sepals are 5. Petals are 5(-8-14). Stamens are many, jointedinto a short tube below and also united with petals basally. Ovary 3-5 celled. Fruit is a capsule with to several seeds.
- Uses
- Camellias are popular ornamental shrubs especially outdoors. The genus is the source of tea of commerce and of valuable seed oils.
