- Long bifurcate ligule (O. barthii has short rounded ligule). Rhizomatous. Grey/green leaves distinguish it from commonly sympatric diploid O. punctata and O. barthii.
- Habitat
- Invades rice field, rivers sides where it can grow in deep water.
- Potentially useful traits
- Bacterial blight resistance has been transferred from this species to rice.
- Notes
- Self-incompatible species. It is not clear that this species is the progenitor of annual A-genome Oryza in Africa.
