- Flexuous sterile lemma as long or longer than spikelet, spikelet 7-8mm long and 1.8-2.2mm wide with trichomes in rows down its length. Palea and lemma papery. Awn about 1cm. Usually 1-2m tall

- Always in shaded forest habitats close to swamps or rivers that may seasonally inundate the forest floor. Perennial occurs as scattered plants in the forest.
