Oryza eichingeri A. Peter
Explanations
- Genome designation
- CC
- Chromosome number
- Diploid, 2n=24
- Distribution
- Sri Lanka, primarily in the wet or intermediate zone, East Africa, particularly Uganda and Ivory Coast
- Key characteristics
- Lowest panicle node almost always has only one branch, not rhizomatous. Perennial.
- Habitat
- A forest species that grows most vigorously in forest margins or openings in the forest. Often found along forest streams or around wet places in the forest.
- Potentially useful traits
- Pest resistance, in the field leaves are generally disease free so a likely source of disease resistance.
- Notes
- The only Oryza distributed on two continents. Closely related to O. rhizomatis.
