解説

分類

ヤブツルアズキはササゲ属（Vigna）アズキ亜属（Ceratotropis）に属する一年生の野生種である。この種は以前はインゲンマメ属（Phaseolus ）に入れられていたが，Verdcourt (1970)の提案によりササゲ属（Vigna）に移された。栽培アズキの祖先野生種と考えられる。2n=22。

分布

日本，中国，韓国，台湾，ヒマラヤ（ネパール） (Tateishi, 1984).

形態的特徴

つる性で花は淡黄色。花軸は有毛。小苞はボート型で外側がひだ状になり，萼筒の2倍程度の長さである。莢は4－9cm。種子は 3.5-4.3 x 2.5-3 mm。托葉は5mm以上。莢は横向きに着く(Tateishi 1985)。発芽は地下子葉型で，心形の初生葉には葉柄がある。

遺伝資源として

アズキと交雑親和性があり，アズキへの遺伝子供給源として利用できる (Siriwardhane et al. 1991)。アズキの起源を調べるためにも重要な材料となる。MAFFではこれまでヤブツルアズキの収集を行っていないが，今後広範な分布地域からヤブツルアズキを収集することの重要性は高い。
