- 熱帯アフリカ：ブルキナファソ、カメルーン、中央アフリカ共和国、チャド、ギニア、マリ、ニジェール、セネガル、シエラレオネ、スーダン、タンザニア、コンゴ民主共和国、ザンビア
- 主な形態的特徴
- 草丈が低く(1m以下)、束状の1年草もしくは多年草になる。稈は細く、短い。小穂は細く、幅1.6m以下。芒は長い(6-17cm)。本種はLeersia属と部分的に似た特性をもつ。

- 開けた場所、ラテライト岩の水たまり
- 潜在的有用性
- 茎の穿孔虫(Stem borer)と葉巻き虫(Leaf folder)への抵抗性が報告されている。鉄に耐性があるものと思われる。
- 備考
- Oryza種の中でゲノムサイズが最少。O. barthiiと同所的に生育することがある。
