This breed is a nondescript type of native chicken kept in Akita Prefecture; it seems to have genes from cross-breeding between Shamo and indigenous chicken in this area. “Hinai-dori” came from the old name of Odate district This breed was designated a natural monument in 1942. Hinai-dori are crossed with Rhode Island Red and the meat produced crossed individuals is popular as Hinaijidori.

Hinai-dori kept in Akita Prefectural Animal Husbandry Experiment Station has been introduced from Hinai-dori breeders association at Odate Area of Akita Prefecture and improved by selective breeding for growing rate, egg production rate and egg weight.
