- Origin
- In Europe, this group relates to R. simsii, R. indicum, Ryukyu azalea and any other cultivars and has been used greenhouse and indoor container plants.
- Recently, native cultivars crossed with Kurume azalea, Satsuki azalea , Korean azalea and another Japanese azaleas for breeding cold-hardy cultivars.
- Characteristics
- In Japan, 'Azalea' was originally the name used for Belgian azalea . But now that is used for forcing azaleas and garden azaleas produced in U.S.A., Great Britain, Germany, China and New Zealand.
- Belgian azalea; ever-flowering, forcing, leaf scorch under strong light. Cold hardness is weak. Garden azalea; same as Kirishima azalea and Satsuki azalea.
