Origin
This species is found in mountainous areas of Hongkong Island, and its number is fairly large.Introduced to Japan in 1958 from Hongkong Botanical Garden at first.
Now there are several clones, some of which from the United States and others collected in the native habitat.
Distribution:Hongkong,Kwangtung.
Characteristics
Flowers:Red with faint violet,6-7 petals,3-4cm in diameter,small tube shape,warped in the flowering end. Flowering in December to March.
Leaves:Narrow-elliptic to lanceolate,7-12cm long and 3-3.5cm wide, dark-green,less shiny.Venation is obscure.
2n=30.
Uses
It is reported by Sakata(1981)a blue pigment of delphinidin is contained in the petals. It is interested as a parent of blue flower camellia.
