Explanations

Origin
It seems that seeds of this species were imported to Japan before 1930's for oil,and around or after 1960,a large number of seeds and scions were introduced.
Large variations between individuals can be noticed in the number of petals and flower size,etc.
Distribution:Middle and south China,Formosa,Hainan,Vietnam,Laos.
Characteristics
Flowers:White,5-9 petals,4-7cm in diameter.Flowering in October to January.
Leaves:Oblong-elliptic to ovate-elliptic,6-8cm long and 2.5-3.5cm wide,thick,green to yellow-green,less shiny.
2n=90.
Uses
This species is most widely cultivated as oil plants in each provinces further south of Yangtze river in China.Also,cultivated in Formosa and Vietnam.
