Up to 4m tall, broad leaves (3-5 cm), pubescent ligule, sterile lemma the same length as the palea and lemma.

While readily distinguished from O. alta and O. latifolia by its long sterile lemmas this may be just the result of a common recurring mutation that is also seen in O. sativa.
