Explanations

Genome designation
CC
Chromosome number
Diploid, 2n=24
Distribution
Sri Lanka, primarily in the wet or intermediate zone, East Africa, particularly Uganda and Ivory Coast
Key characteristics
Lowest panicle node almost always has only one branch, not rhizomatous. Perennial.
Habitat
A forest species that grows most vigorously in forest margins or openings in the forest. Often found along forest streams or around wet places in the forest.
Potentially useful traits
Pest resistance, in the field leaves are generally disease free so a likely source of disease resistance.
Notes
The only Oryza distributed on two continents. Closely related to O. rhizomatis.
