Fusarium属推奨菌株
近年、Fusarium属菌等ではDNA塩基配列の比較解析に基づく分子系統学的研究が進み、本属菌の多くの種が複数種を内在する種複合体であることが明らかにされてきた。また、種の分割・再定義も次々に進められる状況にある。農業生物資源ジーンバンクでは、日本産のFusarium属菌種についてその典型的菌株のセットを最新の分類学的基礎に基づいて構築することを目的に、所蔵菌株の培養下での性状検査と合わせて、Histone H3遺伝子領域、ミトコンドリア小サブユニット・リボソームDNA(mtSSU rDNA)、リボソームDNA ITS領域(rDNA-ITS；18S rDNA部分塩基配列、rDNA-ITS1領域、5.8S rDNA、rDNA-ITS2領域、および28S rDNA部分塩基配列を含む)等についてDNA塩基配列の決定と解析を進めてきた。これらの情報を点検・総合し、各菌種を代表する良好な菌株をFusarium属菌の第一次「配布のための推奨菌株」として選定した。

Colletotrichum属推奨菌株
今世紀に入りColletotrichum属菌の分類に分子系統解析が取り入れられ、特に近年DNA塩基配列に基づく再分類の論文が立て続けに発表されている。分子系統解析の結果、わずかな形態に基づいて定義されてきた単一種が実は複数種の集合体 (種複合体 = species complex) であることが明らかになり、その構成種が次々に分割されつつある。そこで、ジーンバンク所蔵菌株を各菌群の再分類で用いられているDNAバーコード領域・遺伝子塩基配列 (リボソームDNA ITS領域、β-tubulin-2、Histone H3など) に基づき再同定し、培養性状・微小形態と合わせて各菌種に典型的な優良菌株を選定した。現在も盛んにColletotrichum属菌の再分類が進められているため、その最新情報を取り入れながら順次選定種を増やしていく予定である。
